英文摘要 | Arid and semi-arid lands throughout the world suffer from problems like low and erratic rainfall, high temperature, low amount of nutrients and salinity/alkalinity of soil and water. In addition to that, some other factors like composition of bedrock and sea water intrusion exaggerate the problem. The paper gives information about various remediation processes like green remediation, phytoremediation, biochar application, herbal treatment for improvement in soil and water quality. In addition to these methods, some management techniques are also highlighted like water harvesting by tankas, khadin system, watershed management, check dams, the implication of Bhungroo and Zai technology, dew and rain ridge collection system, drip and sprinkler method of irrigation and soil moisture conservation practices. Due to intense heat in the region, the agriculture and farming also get affected. The plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPR) in the rhizosphere get affected due to insufficient moisture. These PGPR help in root growth, prevention of plant disease and increase availability of nutrients. It has been found that some of the PGPR strains in the arid lands involve in the metabolism and growth of plants by withstanding the unfavorable condition. Integrated farming system and new land use technologies like agroforestry approach are used for better benefits. These techniques will result in the overall uses of resources and restoration of ecological diversity. This paper enumerates various arid regions in India, their adverse soil conditions, water management practices and possible solutions for ecorestoration of the region. |
