英文摘要	Chinkara (Gazella bennetti) is a widespread antelope in the arid and semi-arid regions of Deccan Peninsula, but it is relatively unfathomed in the southern part of its distribution range. We report the first photographic evidence of chinkara from Ballari district of Karnataka that comprises six camera-trap records representing six different individuals from Chiribi Reserved Forest. During June-August 2019, chinkaras were detected through camera trapping surveys in a single forest patch, with predominately dry scrub forest. This finding adds information on the extended distribution range of the species across the globe. Presence of a fawn indicates the existence of a viable population with breeding pairs, which is a positive indication in terms of conservation importance of the region. An extensive occupancy survey in this forest patch and neighboring areas would help in acquiring a better understanding of the distribution of this elusive species and facilitate protection, conservation and restoration of its critical habitat for sustaining their population.
