英文摘要 | Drought and soil erosion are the major natural hazards cause of land degradation in the arid and semi -arid regions. North-Western Coast Region (NCR) of Egypt as arid region suffers from aridity condition most of year that characteries sporadic, low average annual rainfall except high rainfall events and its intensities in the winter season that may causes runoff losses and soil erosion and consequently degradation of the fertile topsoil of the cultivation lands. Hence, the present study aims to compare the performance of two hydrological models of KINEROS2 and ARCSWAT through two rainfall seasons by calibration and validation simulated with measured data at Wadi Kharouba watershed in NCR, to select the appropriate model, predict soil losses and establish the appropriate soil and water conservation strategies. The models were run using digital elevation model, Land use/cover classification, soil map and annual weather dataset. The results reveal that the KINEROS2 more efficient than ARCSWAT, with acceptable average value of Nash Sutcliffe coefficient and determination coefficient were 0.89, 0.91, respectively and relative error ranged from 1.07% to 8.77 %. The results of annual runoff produced from highlands varied from 552.13 to 22,209.0 m3. Hence, it is recommended that the reserved water can be stored in a reservoir that can be constructed in the field with approximately volume of about 600 m3 ha-1 y-' which can be used as source of supplementary irrigation during drought periods and the result indicated to areas with a highly risk of soil losses that ranged from 760,06 to 6,009 kg. ha-1 for stream and 1,300 11,578 kg. ha-1 for hillslope. |
