英文摘要 | The tequila industry is one of the most prosperous industries in Mexico, it contributes 18.6% of the national Gross Domestic Product in the alcoholic beverages section, along with mezcal with exports that exceed 1874 million dollars in 2019. It is estimated that 70,000 families depend of the tequila industry directly. Its performance has been going upward and it has not been affected at the production level by the COVID-19 pandemic. The year 2020 broke the production mark: more than a million liters of tequila daily, also presenting 7 years of consecutive growth. The present study aims to review the sustainability perspective of the tequila industry. A qualitative-descriptive documentary review was used. Within the sustainability sections it is found that although the economic section is at a very good level, there are still challenges, for example promoting responsible consumption, improving agave cultivation methods, avoiding deforestation and desertification, developing technologies for the treatment of waste that can be efficient, fast and economical to achieve a zero waste scenario and to avoid the environmental pollution generated by the vast majority of companies in the sector. |
