英文摘要	The Caplina aquifer is located on the border between Peru and Chile and corresponds to the head of the Atacama desert, one of the driest in the world. In this coastal region, groundwater supplies 100 % of agricultural demand. The aquifer has been exploiting for more than 100 years, at increasing rates of extraction, which has generated a water imbalance with the consequent process of contamination by marine water intrusion. This research seeks to identify the hydrogeological conceptualization of the system and its effect on the sustainable management of groundwater. This will allow establishing guidelines for the sustainable management of groundwater, proposing corrective measures of a structural and non-structural type; the first, aimed at artificially securing the water resources for recharging the aquifer; and the second, to establish a management plan and reorganization of extractions, to specify the volume of extraction and the structural measures to be adopted. Additionally, criteria for environmental education, awareness and dissemination, aimed at the conservation and preservation of the aquifer, must be incorporated.
