英文摘要 | The granitic rocks of eastern Paleoproterozoic domain, the Reguibat Shield in the northern Mauritania, are enriched in surficial uranium (calcrete-type) deposits. In this investigation, Landsat 8 and Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) images were used to map lithological units and alteration minerals, aiming at uranium exploration in the Bir Lemjed area of the eastern Paleoproterozoic domain, the Reguibat Shield, north Mauritania. Band ratios, principal component analysis, minimum noise fraction, and maximum likelihood classification were exclusively applied to Landsat 8 data for mapping lithological units and alteration zones in the study area. Besides, specialized band ratios and linear spectral unmixing algorithm were executed to ASTER visible and near-infrared and short-wave infrared bands to detect alteration minerals, specifically. Some zones contain high surface abundance of iron oxides, and Mg,Fe-OH and CO3 minerals were identified, which are typically associated with calcrete deposits in the study area. Fieldwork, geophysical data, and laboratory analysis were carried out for validating the remote sensing results. The Landsat 8 and ASTER remote sensing imagery is an inexpensive tool that could be exploited by mining companies for reconnaissance stage of uranium exploration before undertaking the expensive geophysical and geochemical investigations in the eastern Paleoproterozoic domain of the Reguibat Shield and other parts of the West African Craton, the north Mauritania. |
