英文摘要 | This study aims to understand the contribution of the weather pattern changes into the wintertime poor air quality with increased dust incidence in the central part of Iran (study area) during the past two decades. A monthly mean of time series using MERRA database for the winter total surface dust (PM2.5) concentration shows an increase of similar to 3.52 kgm(-3) per decade in the central part of Iran during 2000-2018 (study period). A statistical analysis based on the Pearson correlation coefficient has shown a strong negative (medium positive relationship) between central Siberian High surface temperature (mean sea level pressure) and the Iran central total surface dust (PM2.5) concentration. This study shows that two key factors with two different dust sources (internal and external) have contributed to the wintertime poor air quality associated with dust increasing over the study area. On one side, the anomalies of the low-level wind vectors at 850 hPa display the intensified north easterly currents from Aral Sea toward the northeast and central part of Iran and forming an anti-cyclonic circulation (similar to 1.5 ms(-1) in the core) possibly collecting the dust from Dasht-e Kavir desert and Kavir-e Lut into the study region. On the other side, the vertical wind structure analysis shows significant changes in the regional wind circulations. This is associated with enhanced meridional and zonal (positive anomalies) transports leading to rising (increased vertical motion) dust particles from north-east Africa to Syria, Iraq, and then to the western and central parts of Iran and then with negative anomalies of the meridional and zonal transports leading to sinking air (subsidence) toward the surface over the study area. |
