英文摘要	In the present study we approach the issue of deification in Desert Monasticism. The doctrine of deification plays an important role in the spirituality of the desert. For the Desert Fathers, deification reveals the divine and lofty purpose for which humankind was created. The deification is seen as the consequence (and purpose) of the Incarnation. It is also understood according to traditional monastic spirituality as an imitation of the Son of God. In this sense, not only does Antony articulate Athanasius's theology of deification, but he becomes an icon for it. In the spirituality of the desert the ultimate monastic goal reflects Christ's life, as a particular means to the end proper to all Christians: perfect humanity modeled on Christ. Indeed, from the earliest days, Christians have attempted to grasp the depth of the incarnation. In other words, the Desert Fathers sought to realize the meaning of the incarnation in their lives. Sometimes the impression given in academic studies of these desert monastics is that they were illiterate peasants for whom theology had little meaning. To the contrary, the interconnection between theology and spirituality is at the root of desert spirituality. In this paper we will examine the theology of deification that furnished the background for the theological thinking of the Desert Fathers.
