| 英文简介 | The iron ore deposit of Abu Gerida (Eastern Desert Egypt) is the only place known to have been mined during the Ptolemaic period (330 - 30 BC) for the production of iron in Egypt. Ore, slag and related materials from the area will be investigated using geochemical and petrological techniques to describe the ancient Egyptian technology. Emphasis will be put on the characterization of the shiny specularite (well crystallized hematite), probably used for the production of various small artefacts (beads, amulets, etc.). |
