英文摘要This article approaches the conformation of the National Territory of Chubut and its departmental toponymy. It considers that by the end of the nineteenth century, the State created a series of institutions that intervened in the process of defining internal and external borders of the incorporated lands organized as National Territories. The predominance of a volunteerist concept of a nation where all those who dared to populate their vast desert space were welcome, reveals a topographic discourse that advanced over a territory stripped of cultural traces, where the other was silenced and excluded.
