STUDY ON THE EFFECT OF BIOCHAR MULCHING ON SOIL MOISTURE CONSERVATION IN KARST AREA OF SOUTH CHINA-TAKE QIXINGGUAN DISTRICT IN NORTHWEST GUIZHOU PROVINCE AS AN EXAMPLE

英文摘要Engineering water shortage, as a common phenomenon in karst area of South China, restricts the growth and development of crops in the critical phenological period. In order to explore the effect of wood biochar mulching on soil moisture in plough layer of sloping farmland in karst area of South China, taking the core area of karst in South China and demonstration area for comprehensive control of light to moderate rocky desertification in karst plateau - Qixingguan district, as study area, using the field runoff plot fixed point observation method and based on the observation data of soil moisture content in plough layer of sloping farmland during the whole growth period of maize in 2018 and 2019, the soil moisture variation characteristics of sloping farmland under 0% (control), 20%, 40%, 60% and 90% biochar mulching rates was studied. The results showed that: (1) during the whole growth period of maize in 2018 and 2019, the average soil moisture content of sloping farmland increased with the increase of biochar mulching rates, the average soil moisture content of 90% biochar mulching treatment in two years was significantly higher than that of the control (P < 0.05), which increased by 2.50% and 5.43% respectively; under the condition of high biochar mulching rate, the fluctuation of soil moisture content in the whole growth period of maize was gentle. (2) The effect of biochar mulching on soil moisture at seedling stage was greater than that at ear stage and flowering to maturity stage. 60% and 90% biochar mulching treatments significantly increased soil moisture content at seedling stage of maize in 2018 and 2019 (P < 0.05), but did not at ear stage (P > 0.05). (3) On the slope scale of runoff plot, the spatial variability of soil moisture content decreased with the increase of biochar mulching rate. The soil moisture content of upper and middle slopes in the control plot was lower than that in the lower slope, while the difference of soil moisture content in each slope position of biochar mulching plot was weak and had no obvious changes law; the growth of maize in the plot with high biochar mulching rates, was better than that in the control plot. On the temporal scales and spatial scales of slope, biochar mulching, especially high biochar mulching rates, showed good regulation effect on soil moisture in plough layer of sloping farmland.
