英文简介This research aims to quantify the contributions of various source areas including river bank, gullies, gobi land, sandy land and the flood carried sediment to the deposits in the Danghe Reservoir in the west end of the Hexi Corridor and point out their main places. Samples from different layers of the reservoir deposits and the potential source areas will be tested to obtain the transportation and sedimentary features that are affected by Aeolian activities in this extremely arid area. By analyzing the data of grain size, elementary composition and content of the geochemical elements, discriminators of the sedimentary sources will be established to build composite fingerprinting models for Aeolian and fine fluvial deposits, and to distinguish the contribution of each source type quantitatively. Then the main source areas of the sediments in this arid land reservoir will be confirmed so that following soil and water conservation and blown-sand controlling projects can be conducted. This work will help to release the storage-reducing problem of Danghe Reservoir and the water shortage problem of Dunhuang oasis, and also provide practical guidance to the numerous reservoirs in other arid regions. Moreover, this scientifically and practically important work will enrich the study of fluvial sedimentology in arid land.
