| 英文简介 | Precipitation is partitioned into interception loss, stemflow and throughfall by vegetation canopies; this alters horizontal and vertical distribution of precipitation within shrub communities, greatly increases the variability of soil moisture recharge, and plays a pivotal role in vegetation survival and reproduction of water-limited desert ecosystems. However, the temporal and spatial variability of precipitation partitioning by xerophytic shrubs and thereupon the dynamic responses of soil moisture has not yet been systematically studied. This issue is to be investigated in the current project by focusing on xerophytic shrubs in a re-vegetated area at southeastern fringe of the Tengger Desert. Long term field measurements on stemflow and throughfall at fine temporal (10 min) and spatial scales, associating with shrub structure parameters, high-resolution precipitation and meteorological data, will be used to characterize the temporal and spatial variability of precipitation partitioning by shrub canopies. Meanwhile, soil moisture in different directions and depths within soil profiles under shrub canopies and in the inter-shrub spaces will be continuously monitored to reveal the dynamic responses of soil moisture to precipitation partitioning. This study is expected to be useful for a better understanding of the coupling and response mechanisms between vegetation, soil and hydrological processes, and to furnish with scientific data for evaluating rain-fed re-vegetation practices and the recovery of desert ecosystem functioning. |
