英文简介The importance of the upper tropospheric land-sea thermal contrast in driving the East Asian summer monsoon and the summer precipitation in East China has not attached much attention, especially for the decadal time scale. This study aims to examine the feature of the upper tropospheric land-sea thermal contrast over the Asia-Pacific region and its influence on the enhancement of the East Asian summer monsoon and northward displacement of the summer precipitation belt in East China since the late 1990s. The way of the upper tropospheric land-sea thermal contrast influence the decadal variations of the East Asian summer monsoon and the summer precipitation in East China as well as the key physical processes are also discussed. To investigate the potential causes of this change, a series of sensitive experiments are conducted. These experiments are forced separately with different thermal forcing, namely Asia continent heating and Pacific sea surface temperature anomalies. Our study focuses on the relative roles of both individual forcing in the upper tropospheric land-sea thermal contrast influencing on the observed decadal enhancement of East Asian summer monsoon and northward shift of the summer precipitation belt in East China in the late 1990s. And the key processes that cause the decadal change in the late 1990s are also revealed. In order to understand the physical mechanisms responsible for the decadal variations of the East Asian summer monsoon and the summer precipitation in East China. This study will provide important clues to help understand and further improve our ability to predict decadal climate change in East China.
