英文简介The interaction between vegetation and land surface water/heat play an important role in the land-atmosphere interaction. The vegetation activity is strengthened by global warming in areas of the mid-high latitude in the Northern Hemisphere, which results in changes in water and heat balance on land surface through land-atmosphere interaction. However, there have been few studies regarding these changes in the Sino-Mongolian arid and semiarid region during the period of intensive global warming in the past 30 years. Therefore, this project aims to use observed land surface data to investigate the dynamic vegetation changes in the Sino-Mongolian arid and semiarid region, and the relationships between dynamic vegetation and land surface water/heat will be also discussed. In addition, to further understand the interaction between dynamic vegetation and the land surface water/heat, we will perform a series of numerical simulation experiments using Community Earth System Model (CESM). Firstly, the capability of the CESM to simulate the dynamic vegetation changes in the Sino-Mongolian arid and semiarid region will be evaluated using the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) data. Then the same climatology data will be used to drive the CESM to simulate the dynamic vegetation and land surface characteristics in the Sino-Mongolian arid and semiarid region using the prescribed CO2 concentration with or without Dynamic Global Vegetation Model (DGVM), and the simulated vegetation and the land surface water/heat characteristics will be analyzed to investigate the interaction between vegetation and land surface water/heat. This project will also investigate the distribution of C3 and C4 grassland presenting different carbon fixation pathways of plants, and the effect of C3 and C4 grassland on land surface water/heat will be studied. The findings of this project will contribute to understanding of the land-atmosphere interaction.
