英文简介The Asian aridification and its forcing mechanism are one of the most predominate scientific topics in Earth Sciences, however, there remains lack of in-situ aridification records from arid central Asia. The Iranian Loess Plateau is located at the mid-latitude arid Asian region dominated today by the Westerlies, which is a key region for us to understand the aridification history of Asia as well its forcing mechanism. In this work, we attempt to conduct a systemic investigation of the late Cenozoic red clay sequences in the Iranian Loess Plateau on the basis of our new findings in the Gorgan red clay section; develop high-resolution palaeomagnetic dating of typical sections to establish a reliable chronological frame for the aeolian sequences of the Iranian Loess Plateau; conduct relative high-resolution measurements of environmental magnetic parameters, grain size, redness, and soil organic carbon to probe into the timing and amplitude of major aridification events during the late Cenozoic; evaluate the spatial and temporal patterns of Asian aridification during the late Cenozoic by comparing the multi-proxy records from different region of Asia.
