英文简介Nutrient resorption (NuR) is an important strategy of plant nutrient conservation, and a key process in biogeochemical models; however broad resorption patterns in plant essential nutrients are seldom documented beyond nitrogen and phosphorus. This project will systematically collect foliar samples from the dominant or common plant species of typical forests in northern China, and determine the concentration and stoichiometry of 14 key nutrient elements in senesced-leaves, as well as other associated plant functional traits (e.g., nutrient content and stoichiometry in mature-leaves, leaf lifespan, specific leaf area, leaf thickness, shoot height, and plant age). Based on these first-hand data, the NuR traits (efficiency and proficiency) of the forest plants, and their relationships with soil (e.g., pH value and nutrient stoichiometry), climate (temperature, precipitation, and sunshine duration), and the plant functional traits mentioned above will be analyzed; and thus the ecological mechanism underlying the variations in the NuR traits across different plant groups and eco-geographic zones will be explored for the 14 foliar chemical elements in northern China's forest plants. The research results are expected to improve our understanding of the differential conservation strategies evolved in plants with regard to these essential nutrient elements; to predict the potential effects of the global-change induced shift of limiting elements on plant nutrient use efficiency and thus ecosystem carbon cycling; and to provide key parameters for the biogeochemical cycling models in different eco-geographic areas.
