英文简介Soil water is a key variable in crop production in the arid and semiarid areas.It interacts with soil temprature, jointly influencing crop yield. Accurate measurement of soil water content and thermal properties, understanding of soil water and soil temperature dynamic and related mechanism, and prediction of soil water content and soil temperature dynamics at different scales in farmland are crucial for soil water management in these areas. Based on lab analysis, field in situ measurement and computer modeling, the objectives and the research approach will be to (1) develop single probe heat pulse method for measuring thermal properties and soil water content; (2) measure soil water content and thermal properties over the landscape scales in farmland using the distributed temperature sensor; (3) quantify the dominant controls of soil water and soil temperature as well as their scale dependency; and (4) develop and validate stachastic models for soil water and soil temperature dynamics under different crops (winter wheat and summer corn) considering the dominant processes and other effects (i.e., root water uptake and soil layering). The proposed study will develop new method for simultaneous measurement of soil water content and thermal properties, advance understanding of soil water and thermal dynamics, and develop modeling tools for soil water and thermal regime management.Tools developed and knowledge gained through this study will provide data and guidance for improving agricultural water management in semiarid area.
