英文简介Junggar Basin is a huge area of the Central Asian deserts with varies landscapes, abundant and diverse plant associations and very specific complex of wild ungulate species, where typically mountain ungulates, such as argali sheep and wild ibex, live in the same arid conditions together with typically plain ungulates, such as khulan and goitered gazelles. These wild ungulates are close relatives and some of them are straight ancestors of the various livestock breeds and they can be used as a gene pool for improvement of domestic ungulates. During the long human history, many ungulate species became domestic, such as wild sheep and ibexes, which gave many breeds of domestic sheep and goats. Some other species, such as khulan and goitered gazelles still haven’t domestic analogues, but they have high potential for future domestication. .At the current period of the intensive industrial and agricultural development of the remote arid regions, wild ungulates started to lose their last refuge areas, and they have faced habitat degradation and loss of suitable environment, which lead to the sharp decrease of the population density and distribution shrinkage. At present period, wild ungulates of Junggar Basin take a great risk of their complete extinction, because they stay under very powerful pressure of numerous anthropogenic activities that never happened before. Due to draw up the strategy for the ungulate conservation in modern conditions and their sustainable using, we have started to study various patterns of ecological and behavioral adaptations of wild ungulates to the modern environments, which change greatly because of the intensive impact of various human activities. We suppose to investigate various behavioral adaptations to the habitat degradation, social structure transformation, shifts in diet for deep understanding of the behavior fitness and population self-adjustment of wild ungulates to the changing environment, as well as define the most problematical strained points of the food competition between wild ungulates and livestock. Apart of the study of ecological and behavioral adaptation mechanisms of wild ungulate species under the pressure of the environmental changes, we assess also habitat quality and its suitability for the wild ungulate populations by using GPS, RS, and GIS technologies. .The aim of our study is to reveal mechanisms of the habitat fragmentation of the wild ungulate populations and habitat loss under the human activity impact. Our work will also contribute to the wider knowledge and deep understanding of the conservational biology of wild animals and help in developing of management strategies for conservation and sustainable using of wild ungulate species in the conditions of current changes of arid environment in the Junggar Basin.
