Conditioning of a Calcaric Soil with Biosolid and Compost Under Laboratory Conditions: Exploration of Soil Property Evolution

英文摘要Conditioning of soils of low organic carbon (OC) is essential to establish optimal fertility conditions for the growth and development of future crops. A usual practice is the substrates of various origins, among which cheap wastes from agricultural or urban residues with high organic matter (OM) content have been gaining popularity in the last decades. An increase in soil OM is considered a desirable trait in agriculture because of its benefits; apart from the increase in soil OC content and the regulation of soil pH, it improves soil and plant macro- and micronutrient contents and hence crop yields, provides greater aggregate stability, reduces soil density, improves water retention, and enhances soil porosity, favoring rhizosphere aeration and resulting in a general enhancement of soil biological activity (Bastida et al., 2007; Herencia et al., 2011; Kepka et al., 2016, 2017). In many countries of the Mediterranean basin, application of amendments as soil management is essential to cope with desertification or soil erosion, which leads to huge soil losses.
