英文摘要 | The Westerlies is important in linking the Northern high latitude, North Atlantic and East Asian monsoon. The location and intensity of the Westerly jet can not only control the climate of central Asia (including northwest arid China), but also significantly influence the climate of the East Asian monsoon region. However, it remains unclear of the variability of the Westerlies in Asia on multiple timescales and their global linkage. For example, sediment records from Qinghai lake in China suggest an anti-phase relationship between the Westerlies and the Asian summer monsoon for both glacial-interglacial and glacial millennial timescales. In contrast, speleothem delta~(18)O records from Xinjiang in northwest arid China show inphase variations with that from Asian monsoon region during the last 500 ka. A synthesized moisture record from 11 lakes in arid central Asia indicates an out-ofphase relationship between the westerlies and Asian summer monsoon during the early and mid-Holocene, but a similar declining trend during the late Holocene. Nevertheless, peat record from Xinjiang demonstrates an increasing trend of rainfall since the mid-Holocene. |
