英文摘要 | The evolution of the atmospheric boundary layer is an important issue in the context of weather, climate and air quality control studies. Using the Land Surface Processes Experiment (LASPEX) datasets, the evolution of the atmospheric boundary layer structure over a semi-arid tropical station Anand (22 degrees 35'N, 72 degrees 55'E) was studied. The above observations have shown that the boundary layer attained a maximum height in the afternoon (0900 UTC) hours. Further the boundary layer attained a great height in summer season (low vegetation, low soil moisture, high surface temperature conditions) and a low value in the monsoon season (high soil moisture conditions). The mean boundary layer height in the afternoon hrs was found to be 1650 m in summer, 1400 m in monsoon and 1500 m in winter season (high vegetations, moderate soil moisture). Furthermore the growth rate of the boundary layer in the morning hours (0000-0300 UTC) was highest (120 m hr(-1)) in the winter season, which is about 2-3 times than that of the summer and monsoon season. Similarly, the decaying rate of the boundary layer in the evening hrs (0900-1200 hrs UTC), was highest (290 m hr(-1)) in the summer season. Nevertheless, it has been observed that the boundary layer transition in the morning hrs did not occur immediately after the sunrise. The evening transition is observed to have started early in winter season than that of summer. A comparison of the present boundary layer height with the mid-latitudinal region showed that the boundary layer heights in tropics are not much different from the mid-latitudinal region. |
