英文摘要	Gilbues is the largest desertification nucleus in Brazil and presents an intense state of environmental degradation. For this reason, studies of priority areas for conservation are needed due to the risk of degradation. Among these areas we can mention the Restricted Use Areas (AUR) that aim at the conservation of the soil through the use of good agronomic practices of sustainable production. In this sense, the objective of this study was to map the AUR, in function of the slope, of the desertification nucleus of Gilbues, Piaui. The delimitation of these slope areas occurred in accordance with the new Brazilian Forest Code (CFB) and performed with the aid of ArcGIS 10.0 Software, by using SRTM base images in raster format to compose the Hydrologically Consistent Elevation Digital Model (MDEHC). It was quantified 19.5 km(2) of sites classified as AUR in Gilbues, which deserve attention as to the use according to the CFB, as a way to avoid aggravation of degradation processes. The delimitation of the AUR category is simple as the input data and processing as well as serving in environmental monitoring at the local level as well as for management areas and land use planning practices.
