英文摘要The article focuses on the question if and how the three belligerents of the First World War applied their military experiences gained in desert warfare and the conduct and defence of amphibious operations during the interwar years and the Second World War. This question is of particular relevance, since the conditions for the campaigns in North Africa (1940-43) and the invasion of northern France (1944) in many ways resembled those of the 1915-18 operations at Gallipoli as well as in the Sinai desert and in Palestine.
