英文摘要 | Three insects (Desert locust, Schistocerca gregaria; honeybee, Apis mellifera and dung beetle, Scarabaeus lamarckii) were investigated under Scan Electronic Microscope (SEM) and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). By EDX the results showed that the iron element was existed in both the forewings and brain of all tested insects. The percentages of iron in insects brains were 1.81, 3.91 and 0.40% for desert locust, honeybee and dung beetle adults, respectively. The corresponding results in the forewings were 0.38, 0.45 and 0.30%, respectively. These results were confirmed that these insects not only rely on pheromones in navigation but also magnetoreceptors which found in their bodies (brain and forewings). These magnetoreceptors were considered a magnetic guide to food and habitat. This phenomenon is very important to guide the honey bee adult to its hive, guide the locust swarm to its food and return to its habitat and guide the dung beetle and navigation. The results were found of iron in desert locust (brain and forewings) which considered the first time recorded. |
