英文摘要	In the middle of the great Atacama Desert, characterized by a great aridity and thermal amplitude, it is located San Pedro de Atacama church in a fertile oasis. Its original construction dates back to the 16th century, while the current one dates from 18th century, keeping up a baroque architectural style characteristic of the southern Andean region. The work is surprisingly adapted to the ecology, seismicity and materiality of the desert. Its walls are made of adobe masonry and the structure of the gable roof is made with local wood, with cactus decking and covered with mud plaster. Throughout its life the church had-suffered successive fires, earthquakes, floods and roof overloads, which had caused serious cumulative damages to the structure. The restoration project, carried out by Fundacion Altiplano, is adjusted to the current criteria and techniques for heritage conservation of earthen architecture in the world, as well as heritage preservation and sustainable development of the community of San Pedro de Atacama.
