英文摘要	Sandy Pampas located in the northwest of Buenos Aires Province is a vast plain characterised by an important high-yield agricultural system. One of the most significant impacts affecting this system is constituted by strong hydrological anomalies (floods/droughts). It is a wind-eroded landscape where different palaeoforms related to dune ridges can be observed. The present-day humid climatic conditions contrast with the origin of an aeolian landscape associated with a former arid climate. The dominant features are the lack of a drainage network and the accumulation of water in the interdunal or deflation basins. The hydrological factors (precipitations, water excess, soil humidity, water tables) affecting the most significant impacts are analysed. The most distinctive hydrological characteristic is the predominance of vertical water movements. Such vertical movements (evaporation, transpiration, infiltration, unsaturated zone and water table exchanges) prevail over horizontal movements (surficial and subsurface), with the variations in surface and groundwater storage acquiring relevance. The sensitivity of the region to climate fluctuations (water deficits and excesses) and to anthropogenic activities can be observed. It is suggested that hydrological applications and research in large plains should aim at identifying tools to solve the complex hydrological problems occurring in such environments.
