英文摘要	Composition and structure of the riparian vegetation of the Sonora and Bacanuchi rivers in Sonora were determined after the occurrence of extreme climatic events. Diameter at breast height, height, basal and crown area and taxonomic identity of each individual were recorded in 232 quadrats of 1000 m(2) each (50 x 20 m). A total of 11,344 individuals (ind) belonging to 77 species and 28 families and 61 genera were identified. For tree species, the mean density was 80 ind ha(-1), mean basal area was 0.07 m(2) ha(-1), mean crown area was 131.3 m(2) and mean height was 6.9 m. The tree species with the highest importance values index (IVI) were alamo, mezquite and sauce with 39.3, 17.2 and 13.3%, respectively. In the case of shrubs, batamote and jecota were the species with highest IVI values of 43.02 and 20.33%, respectively. Dead individuals corresponds to 18.4% of the entire sample. This study contributes to the knowledge of the riparian vegetation in Sonora and provides basic ecological information for future restoration programs.
