英文摘要	Based on the distinction between place and space, and the differences among perceived, conceived, and lived spaces, this paper analyzes the representation of the Argentinian pampa as an "open space" in texts and authors from the 19th to the 21st century. The "desert" (as the pampa lowlands are commonly described) is transformed into a place when a "center", or point of convergence, is created, that is, when space is "humanized". This "production of space" can take different shapes: it can be a temporary (by means of rodeos, wagon convoys or campfires) or more permanent process, involving the drawing of paths, traces, and roads, or the graves scattered throughout the pampa.
