英文摘要	Desertification is a kind of degradation that is likely to occur in the dry zones of the world, when we have an excessive use of natural resources, mainly through the removal of vegetation over the years. In Brazil, the region of Cariri Velho in Paraiba has been one of the most affected by this process. The government's recent incentives to the raising of goats has led to an acceleration of this impact due to the dominance of an environmentally unsustainable productivist logic,, which can be better seen with the last four years of in sense drought, with strong repercussions in the Caatinga ecosystem, as well as in the cattle industry. Government intervention has mitigated the effects of desertification in the population's quality of life. However, as these are not accompanied by a plan for creating jobs and income compatible with the environmental conditions of the region, we put into question the political dependency created by these measures.
