英文摘要	Tourism in the Chadian Sahara: National Politics and Local Indifference. - In early 2012, an international charter plane carrying tourists landed, for the first time, in the Chadian desert. Its arrival was made possible by the political context in Chad and the Sahara more generally, rather than by significant local developments or demands; as a result, tourism in the area remained primarily shaped by national politic interests and power struggles. Meanwhile, local populations showed relatively little interest in these uninvited strangers. This indifference, and the many misunderstandings it led to, mostly based on mutually incompatible notions of wealth, hospitality and solidarity, shows the limits, in this particular context at least, of the idea of development through and for tourism.
