英文摘要	Ninety-eight percent of Rio Grande do Norte territory are included in the so-called Desertification Susceptible Areas of Brazil. In Lower-Acu, native forest's systematic deforestation in order to attend ceramist polo and small local industries' needs has intensified the serious scenario of environmental devastation. This study examined the viability of implanting a commercial production of ecological firewood in the Ipanguacu Campus of the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Norte to supply part of the demand for firewood and charcoal, thus mitigating the effects of human activities on caatinga. The briquettes would be composed of residues from the production of carnauba wax and elephant grass grown solely for energy purposes in the irrigable areas of the region. Estimative of factory's maintenance costs were made having as parameter the cost of installation of the factory-school being built in the Campus Ipanguacu of the IFRN and production costs of a similar industrial plant data, located in Parana state. These data were summarized in spreadsheets Make Money software, used in economic viability evaluations based on sealers such as Net Present Value, Payback and Internal Rate of Return. The results confirmed that the project is viable and can contribute effectively to the restoration of native vegetation, besides generating employment and income for local residents.
