英文摘要	This article examines the literary garden depicted by Pu Songling (1640-1715) in his strange stories. The enchanted, deserted, and haunted garden functions as a metaphor for the contested ground on which one of the most important Ming-Qing intellectual issues, qing, is debated. The rich associations of the garden in such supernatural stories are traced back to early literary traditions, highlighting Pu's brilliant imagination and the unprecedented sophistication and complexity of chuanqi tales. In the process of constructing literary gardens, Pu contests the intellectual issues of his time and dissolves the boundaries between normal and abnormal, real and ideal, death and life, and order and disorder.
