| 英文摘要 | The coastal morphology of the northern United Arab Emirates is characterised by numerous lagoons. These habitats form important centres of increased biomass production, particularly within an arid environment. This particular environment has attracted local populations since the Neo-lithic. Today this is shown by countless shell middens and large areas covered by shells. The palaeo-lagoon of Hamriya is no exception: refuse from local subsistence has been scattered across hundreds of hectares over many millennia. Against a backdrop of conservation of the site for future research in a rapidly developing area, an assessment of the archaeological potential was undertaken by applying a combined strategy of selective and systematic techniques in two field campaigns in 2005 and 2006/2007. It soon became apparent that a lagoon does not represent a static habitat but is subject to a developmental process determined by changing environmental conditions. These changes are visible in the archaeological record. This paper is intended to explain the chrono-spatial settlement behaviour by analysing the development of the shell midden landscape of Hamriya. |
