英文摘要	The article deals with the available information about a scarcely studied topic, related to the famous siege laid to the Spanish detachment in Baler (1898-1899), such as the soldiers who deserted. The paper offers some details and tries to find out the reasons which could have led them to take such decision, besides their behaviour towards the besieged and the executions of some of them shortly before the end of the siege.
