英文摘要A new approach to studying the dynamics of desertification centers is proposed, which was tested on arid lands of the northwest Caspian region. Based on satellite observation data on albedo and surface temperature in 2000-2009, centers of desertification (of natural and anthropogenic origin) with aridization growth caused by albedo-precipitation feedback are detected. On the basis of comparison between 20052009 and 2000-2004, differently directed changes in centers' areas are detected: the Chernozemel'sky (Black Land) center decreased, and centers in Astrakhan oblast and western Kazakhstan increased and merged.
