英文摘要	Calingasta Valley (formed by Castano, Calingasta and Los Patos rivers) keeps archaeological evidence from the late agricultural period. In San Juan Andean valleys agriculture and cattle raising date from at least 2500 BP. However, intensive agriculture in the lowlands in all the province's large oases was performed since 900-1200 AD. This happened when hydraulic systems made agriculture possible in huge areas on the banks of main rivers. Most of the archaeological evidence of the late population, which has been kept exceptionally intact in Villa Corral, was lost in the low valleys due to the overlap between the hyspanic-colonial and historic installations. This paper presents the antecedents and preliminary results of the archaeological research carried out in that area last year, which indicate the presence in this area of an installation, posibbly an Animas del Norte Chico-type from Chile, which coexists with the beginning of the late period in the Calingasta tradition. This evidence might serve as the starting point for future research.
