英文摘要 | In its natural habitat, the dromedary (Camelus dromedarius) can consume vegetation of low nutritional value because it varies what it consumes and seeks out water-rich plants. Indeed, dromedaries are strongly tied to their rangelands, and this relationship is framed by the rangeland's richness of palatable species and their nutritional value. In this study, we examined the nutritional characteristics (i.e., chemical composition and in vitro digestibility) of 10 forage species found in 2 and regions of southern Tunisia. Sampling took place in El Bhaier (governorate of Kebilil and El Fje (governorate of Medenine) over four seasons between 2014 and 2015. We found pronounced differences in chemical composition between species, sampling locations, and seasons. Dry matter (DM) content was just 224% in Zygophyllum album but reached 63% in Frankenia thymifolia. Crude protein (CP) content varied seasonally (e.g., between 73 and 15.6% of DM in Atriplex halimus) and was highest in the spring in almost all the species studied (up to 19.3% of DM in Nitraria retusa). Mean fibre content differed between sampling locations: it was 17.1% in El Bhaier versus 11.6% in El Fje. Digestibility tended to be higher in the winter and spring. It was as high as 54.2% for Zygophyllum album. |
