英文摘要	As part of work being done by a North African agricultural network to improve vetches of North African origin, an experiment was carried out over four crop years (2009/2010, 2010/2011, 2011-2012 2012/2013) in the semi-arid region of Setif Indeed, to breed better plants, it is crucial to carry - out multi-year studies during which different vetch varieties are subject to evaluation and selection. Here, we quantified the performance of various vetch varieties in terms of above-ground biomass and seed production. We found that the vetch varieties differed significantly in above ground biomass yield, seed production, and water use efficiency; there was a marked interaction between variety and crop year. The Algerian varieties had higher seed production (mean = 14 qx/ha) over the four crop years. In contrast, biomass yield was greatest for the Moroccan variety Yamama (mean = 18 qx/ha). The mean water use efficiency values associated with above-ground biomass yields were 4.01 kg/ha/mm in 2010, 3.90 kg/ha/mm in 2011, 3.05 kg/ha/mm in 2012 and 3.86 kg/ha/mm in 2013; the maximum value was observed in the Tvv variety (702 kg/ha/mm). Flowering date was positively correlated with above ground biomass yield (r = 0.76) and seed production (r = 0.69), indicating that late varieties were the most productive in both cases. Taller varieties tended to produce more seeds than above ground biomass (r= 0.62).
