英文摘要The article reconstructs, based on contemporary testimonies, the daily experiences of the Chilean troops and their impressions in the camps installed in the Atacama Desert between November of 1879 and April of 1880, while the War of the Pacific was taking place. It studies the strategies deployed by the soldiers to survive in a hostile environment, feed themselves, inhabit, distract and how they honored their comrades fallen in combat.
