英文摘要 | By employing the sandstorm dataset from meteorological station observations, the temporal and spatial variations in dust outbreak duration in the source regions and visibility variations over the downwind regions of northern China were analyzed over the past four decades. The statistics and wind field analyses reveal that after the early 2000s, the duration of dust outbreaks over the potential source areas of northern China had decreased by 63% compared with that in the 1970s, which suggests that the dust aerosol emission intensities in the region were significantly reduced. However, although the potential dust aerosol emission intensities were significantly reduced, the visibility during dust aerosol emission periods increased by only 25%. The emerging potential source areas in the eastern regions, variations in the wind field, increases in up-air winds, and decreases in surface winds all contribute to the observed continued high dust aerosol pollution in northern China since the early 2000s. |
