| 英文摘要 | The Mediterranean countries of Europe have undergone rapid change and development over the last 30 years, especially in the last 10 years. These changes have had far reaching social and economic impacts in many countries. Landscape changes have also occurred as a result of centuries of distinctive man-environment relationships in a climatically marginal region. Large areas of land are being abandoned, temporarily or permanently by rural populations, urban areas are growing, agriculture is becoming more intensive and water scarcity has become a major environmental and resource concern. The atlas, which is based upon the findings of the European Community's Medalus project, presents current understanding and future solution prospects to the environmental problems facing the Mediterranean. The atlas aims to give a sense of the problem of land degradation in Mediterranean Europe and the research being carried out. There are sections on the natural and socioeconomic processes occurring in the region todya, various field studies detailing the research being undertaken and the problems of desertification in three areas in southern Spain and Italy. Finally the results of the research are presented with prospects for the future. |
