EFFECT OF ARTIFICIAL REJUVENATION ON LEAF GROWTH OF CALLIGONUM ARBORESCENS

Artificial rejuvenating Shelter-belt forest can help to enhance sand-wind control efficiency. To rejuvenate the degraded trees in Tarim desert highway shelter-belt forest, we comparatively analyzed photosynthetic shoot surface area and its biomass of thinned and cut Calligonum arborescens in this paper. The main results show that: (1) Obvious differences of surface area and its biomass among Calligonum arborescens with different ages represented (p<0.01), photosynthetic shoots for the bigger ages trees had higher growth activities; (2) In thinned Calligonum arborescens forest, sprouting capacity for photosynthetic shoots of remaining Calligonum arborescens trees enhanced notably, especially for secondary cutting; (3) Cutting measure remarkably mitigated Calligonum arborescens forest senescence, and cutting by 2 mx1 m had the higher photosynthetic shoot surface area and its biomass. So we conclude that artificial rejuvenation has anti-aging effect on Calligonum arborescens forest declining, even promote their growth activities.
