Research on Landscape Evolution Characteristics of Desertification in Maowusu Sandy Land

Desertification is a global environmental problem, also is one of the current research hotspots at home and abroad. Landscape ecology is a cross discipline which emerge newly, has important application value in resources and environment planning and management. In this paper, we took Maowusu Sandy Land, Inner Mongolia as the study area, used Landsat TM remote sensing data of five times including 2000, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2012 as information source, applied landscape ecology in the study of desertification. We obtained desertification landscape data by using man-machine interactive visual interpretation methods and remote sensing technology and combination of GIS spatial analysis technology. We also analyze the desertification status and dynamic change characteristics of Maowusu Sandy Land. The results showed that the total area of the desertification landscape is expanding in the area and the land gradually deteriorated. The total area of desertification increased 616586.42 hm(2). Informed by dynamic change of desertification landscape level, we knew that the overall landscape tends to be irregular, edge plaques tends to be simple, degree of landscape fragmentation and landscape heterogeneity are increasing, the plaque type gradually to the complexity and inhomogeneity. Overall, the various types of landscape spatial relationships tend to be simpler. Bad connectivity between various types of landscape patches and the advantage patch types fragmented.
