Dobrogea, regarded as one of the most favorable areas in Romania for apricot culture, allows obtaining high-yield plantations by applying irrigation. The paper presents results of research on the effects of drip irrigation on the growth and productivity of 'NJA 42' and Tudor apricot varieties. The research was carried out during 2003-2006 on a brown soil at the Research Station for Fruit Growing Constanta. Irrigation was performed by application of 1 to 5 watering of 180 m(3) ha(-1). Between the two irrigation treatments, the annual growth in trunk cross sectioned area (TCSA) was significantly higher by 16% in 'Tudor' variety versus the 'NJA 42' variety. Between the two varieties studied, application of drip irrigation determined an increase in TCSA, significantly higher by 68-75% versus the non-irrigated treatment. Between the two irrigation treatments the fruit yield was significantly higher in 'NJA 42' variety by 32% versus the 'Tudor' variety. Application of drip irrigation determined an increase in fruit yield, significantly higher by 33-37%, versus the non-irrigated treatment.
