The present work aims to investigate the feasibility of the desert plant, namely Ruta graveolens L., as biosorbent to remove Pb (II) cations from contaminated water. The ability of this material to adsorb Pb(H) was investigated by using batch adsorption procedure. Various factors affecting the metal ion uptake behavior such as pH, contact time and the amount of the adsorbent on the adsorption capacity of metal ion were studied. The experimental data were analyzed using different adsorption kinetic models viz., the pseudo-first order and pseudo-second order models. Two adsorption isotherms (Langmuir and Frundlich) were used to fit the equilibrium data. The results showed that the adsorption kinetics followed pseudo-second order equation. The equilibrium data fit well the langmuir isotherm, and the maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 303 mg/g. Thus, Ruta graveolens L displayed high efficiency for Ph(11) removal from contaminated water.
