Forest fires are a widespread phenomenon in Portugal and other Mediterranean countries leading to desertification processes. In Portugal, the wildfires have had catastrophic consequences devastating large forest areas inside natural parks, reserves and protected landscapes. At the Protected Landscape of Montejunto mountainous area a forest fire occurred in summer of 2003 that affected 80% of the total area. The objective of the present work is to propose measures of landscape reclamation through a strategy that acts in a short and medium term and reach in sustainable landscape at the long term. The proposed measures were the following: Reforestation, promotion and diversification of the original forest structure; incentive equilibrium between men and landscape; promote the practice of traditional costumes; promote ecotourism and sports in nature, contribute for the natural, historic and cultural identity of the place in order to reach sustainability. After the definition of the operation strategy of the reclamation project concept "ecological roots", it will be presented the Master Plan with proposals that will enable the continuity and improvement of the landscape, throuth a balanced intervention and increasing the ecological blodiversity.
