Digital image process and machine vision technology is one of the most important subjects in agriculture automation. Image processing and identification of sod is in the researching stage in China. This paper focuses on image processing and identification of sod. For the features of sod images, they are filtered on the theory of mathematical morphology. Through the study of pattern recognition of texture characteristics, this method can be used in identification of the shapes of sod. So this can take the place of artificial recognition. Also it can be promoted to modern agriculture, desert control et al.
