The Yichang irrigation sub-district of the Hetao irrigation district (lnner-Mongolia, China) is selected as a research area. The groundwater plays an important role in this area, which is not only an important source of water for domestic and industrial uses, but also the key factor of salinization of the soil. In addition, Hetao irrigation district has many unresolved problems, such as degradation of groundwater quality, and low irrigation efficiency and salinization, which are related to the use of water resources in this region. Therefore, to deal with the limited groundwater resources reasonably and protect them efficiently, understanding the cycling of water and salt in the irrigation process has important practical significance.
