The Yellow River Basin is short of water resources and ecologic environment is vulnerable. With the development of society and economy, water demand from the Yellow River is far higher than the bearing capacity. The demand and supply of water resources is in a strict conflict while water demand is becoming more and more, making use of a large amount of ecologic water and resulting in a series of ecologic environmental problems relating to water resources. On the basis of a great quantity of investigation and analysis, the paper discusses concerned problems and their causes for drying up of the river, soil and water loss, aggravation of water pollution, excessive drawing of underground water, shrinking of lakes, secondary salinization of soils and desertification.
